What Determines the Cost of a Riviera Maya Wedding?

How much does a Riviera Maya wedding cost? is one of the first questions almost every couple asks — and honestly, there's no single answer. Two weddings at the same resort, same month, can land tens of thousands of dollars apart depending on a handful of decisions. Instead of throwing out a number that won't mean much for your specific day, here's what actually moves the needle.

Guest count is the single biggest factor Nearly everything at a resort wedding — catering, the reception space, bar packages, even some vendor pricing — is charged per person. Trimming your list from 100 guests to 70 changes your total more than almost any other decision you'll make.

Venue tier All-inclusive resorts with a complimentary or low-cost wedding package (often included when you meet a room-block minimum) sit at one end. Ultra-luxury properties, private villa buyouts, and fully custom design sit at the other. Most Riviera Maya couples land somewhere in the middle — a resort with an upgraded package, more say over florals and reception details, and the flexibility to bring in a few outside vendors.

Season High season — roughly October through December and February through May — brings dry, reliable weather and the highest resort rates. January and the summer stretch (June through September) run quieter, with more room availability and, at some properties, more flexible pricing — worth considering if budget matters more to you than peak-season energy.

Outside vendor fees If you bring in a photographer, videographer, DJ, or florist who isn't on your resort's preferred vendor list, expect a fee. This is one of the more consistent and well-documented costs in the region — resorts publish their own policies, and they vary a lot by property, so it's worth confirming directly with your venue before you budget. It's a separate line item from what you pay your vendor, and it's one of the easiest costs to plan for early instead of discovering mid-planning. We track vendor fee policies across the resorts couples ask us about most — reach out and we'll tell you what to expect at yours.

Photography and videography This is the part of your wedding you'll still have in twenty years, and pricing varies by coverage hours, team size, and what's included (drone, same-day edit, full-day vs. ceremony-only). Rather than guessing at a number, the most reliable way to budget is to reach out with your date, guest count, and venue — we'll put together a real quote for your day, not a rough estimate. A few ways to keep your budget on track

  • Get quotes from at least 2–3 resorts before committing — packages and included extras vary more than people expect.

  • Ask about your resort's outside vendor policy and fee as soon as you've picked a venue, so it's part of your budget from day one.

  • Decide early which vendors matter most to bring in from outside — for most couples, that's photography and video.
